Hi there

I'm currently on a 4 meg line by Afrihost capped 100 gig*. I have noticed that Telkom has upgraded my exchange to a 20 meg. I want to upgrade to 10 meg now.

1)Who is the best price wise for either capped or uncapped on this 10 meg line?
2) Is it woth it to go 10 meg?

Thanx

Chris

I'd stay with Afrihost of you want uncapped, their data is the best I've used and I'm sure others will agree. If you don't go through the 100 gigs then why not just request a line upgrade from whoever you rent your line from?

BTW you say 10 meg and 20, which one do you mean? If you aren't VDSL enabled chances are your local loop is quite long which could mean that 10 meg is out of the question, your attenuation needs to be quite low to have 10 meg

Just upgrade to 10Meg.

If Afrihost is working for you there's no need to change.

And yes, 10Meg is worth it. Especially if you have multiple people using the line.

Hi there.

My line is with Telkom currently on 4 meg. I phoned the help desk and the lady confirmed that my exchange do support 20 meg line speeds. I want to go for 10 meg.So how do I find out about this "attenuation" vs line upgrade to 10 meg?

Thanx

Chris

Hi there.

My son and I are using it together at night for browsing. The reason I asked these questions was that I have noticeed before on these forums that people that runs on 10 meg lines, actually get 4 meg line speed quality in certain areas with different IPS?

Thanx

That depends on a lot of things, when you say 4 Meg on a 10 Meg that could imply shaping on downloads and certain types of data such as P2P, if it were a problem mirrored in browsing speed and unshaped data, that points to the Telkom infrastructure, before you even consider it, make sure your line can handle it, what is your attenuation, SNR?

Hi there

attenuation, SNR?

On your router you should be able to see attenuation and SNR values under your line/DSL stats.

Hi there

Hope this help. You must tell me cause I don't know anything about this?

Your line stats look amazing. 10Meg won't be a problem at all.
