So my area got upgraded from 4 meg to 10 meg this week. The router syncs at 10239 down and 1020, but my download speed is max 3.96 Mbps download and 0.86 Mbps upload. The upload speed is doubled what is was on the 4 meg line, so that is fine. The download speed is the same as it was on the 4 meg line, it must be more like 9 to 10 Mbps download?

Some advice please.

Thanks in advance.

Not enough details.

You're probably still on a 4Mbs isp package.

Who's the isp and which package are you on?

I'm with Telkom (the R799.00 package) and I was in the Telkom store on Saturday to do the upgrade. Was again there this morning to confirm and they said it will be done this afternoon.

The people that sell you this do not understand the infrastructure (been there, done that)
You are not on a 4MB package, you are just too far from the exchange to benefit from the 10MB upgrade (which is only the fibre upgrade between the exchanges). Call Telkom and tell that you are only get a 4MB speed and the downgrade your back to that package - pointless paying more for something that you will never get

When I upgraded to a 10MB line, I had to let my ISP know. Only after the reconfigured my connection, did I get full line speed.

Yup. Same issue on my side. I was sold this but Telkom's 'Door to Door' saleslady. When I had techie come out to solve another issue, I raised this with him and this is exactly what he told me :)

The answer can be found, if OP posts his SNR and Attenuation Rates. :)

Sorry for the late reply (been a bit busy). I have an free account with Afrihost and I this is the result: http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/6840696515 . So I phoned Telkom and the lady said the line will "stabilize" in 10 days and I will get full speeds.

Does this make sense or is Telkom taking me for a ride?

Sorry to say, she just wanted to get rid of you. It's an ISP problem. Get a real ISP VOX*COUGH*.
