10 Things you Can't do with Neotel (Lite)

This is what you can't do with Neotel Lite:

1. Check Bandwith usage
2. Check Telephone usage
3. Send/Receive Faxes
4. Make a call while online
5. Share a connection on a network
6. Play xbox Live
7. Any web 2.0 stuff -almost out of the question
8. Facebook and social - boderline
9. VOIP
10. Answering service (voice mail) on phone line

Feel free to add what else you can't do with Neotel, I think there are a few more things, I like my list of 10!!
 
You can't connect up your own phone, so no wireless.
 
I generally try and dissuade people from using Lite if they want to access the internet. Unless they don't mind dial-up speeds at best.

Unfortunately, as with most people that have lite, it is the only option I have from Neotel, why they can't offer prime everywhere lite is offered....
anyhow for basic email, general standard internet surfing its ok, but nothing more than that - its better than standard dial up, but not much better, its a very limited basic service at the moment.

I'm sure its almost identical for prime points 1 - 5 and 10. If you get speeds faster than basic 386 ADSL with prime then you should be able to do 6, 7, 8 and 9 on my list.

Gee :/ even when they exist and their phone is in your house it's almost like they don't exist :o until you take a look at your bills
 
I don't think the "can't share connection" thing is 100% right...I'm sure its possible. Worse case scenario is using a linux box to share the connection.

Unless you mean that its technically possible but not advisable.

The checking bandwidth usage one is rather frightening...how the hell is one supposed to live with that.:eek:
 
I don't think you can share on the lite because of the speed.
I suppose you could set up ICS in windows, but half the time on lite if you surfing and checking email at the sime time everything just bottleknecks and jams because its so slow.
Sure there are times when its smooth and ok, but other times you just have to disconnect and give up and I would hate to see what two pcs sharing a connection would do as it would be almost impossible to surf two different sites at once.
Still, glad I have it, its the only workable solution I have at the moment!!
Still havent used or given anyone my tel number yet though...

Thanks for the inputs. Your list is a bit of a mixed bag. Obviously, NeoConnect Lite is not meant to be a high-speed Internet product, so 6,7 and 8 aren't things we can really address. 3 and 4 are limitations of the device, not the network, and something our product team is looking at. Technically, 5 is incorrect, although we realise that sharing a USB device needs a computer, rather than a router. Similarly, 9 is not technically correct, though VoIP performance can't be guaranteed without QoS. As far as 1, 2 and 10 are concerned, watch this space.

The speed-related ones don't apply to Prime, but we are certainly looking at ways of addressing all these issues in some way.

Later comments about blocking calls and using a separate phone noted - you should see some developments soon.

Hey Neotel rep, yay, good to see you.
Not picking a fight, just stating things you can't do with Neotel Lite - and I did specify Lite.
It doesn’t matter if some things are technically incorrect on the list, it’s what’s practical and works
The reason for the above list is if you can get both options, then I would say definitely go for prime, as Lite is really basic.
If like me, you can only get Lite, then it’s a decent enough solution, better than 3G and 1 zillion times better than iCurse.
You can't VOIP on Lite, ok technically you can, realistically you can't. I tried skype and its just not doing it for me, if you have tips on how to improve it, I'm all ears.
Re points 3 and 4 - the faxes and call while online, then offer a better device?
Technically you can also connect to xbox live, you just cant play games on lite, I wonder if anyone on prime is using it on xbox live and how the game play is?

Anyhow neotel rep, good to see you here, I need prime in my area and then I can stop whining what you can't do with lite and what you can do with prime....
 
You cannot hook an alarm system to it. That means I still need to hang on to my Telscum line. And what about number porting?:(
 
Looks like "soon" will be in time for xmas season....

Neo , please note , in Cape Town - as soon as Boney M is heard on radio - people go out and buy lounge suites , fridges etc..

So no money left for you guys...

Ok, came across this thread when i was trying to figure out why i'm battling with Internet Connection sharing on the Lite package...

No. 5 is incorrect. Assign IP addresses to each pc, other pc's TCP/IP options must point back to the pc with the device, then most important, add the DNS settings:

41.160.0.36 & 41.160.0.37

Working SLOW, but fine ;)

I have Prime and its working OK on the PS3 (point6)
