Dude seriously open up the battery rack and look at the configuration! Then just get some bigger batteries from a battery store and hook them up ;)

Well depends where you are, there was a thread here not too long ago for 100Ah 12v sealed deep cycle batteries in Jhb for around R900 each. Although expensive 2 of them will run that Router for more than a day (if the router is really 12w around 8 days) ;)

EDIT: This thread: http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php?t=115391

Phone battery stores around you area and inquire about prices :D

WTF? I can run my laptop off a 100AH battery for a whole day!

You can run a 12W router for a very long time on a 100AH battery...

Heh, yep, exactly (4 days for 1x100Ah) ;)

But yeah 45Ah should work well for a 12W router, not sure what kind of configuration the UPS will use but I think my Mom APC unit used 2x12v in series (same rating).

Yeah obviously. In my opinion it is a waste of a 100AH battery if only to run a 12W router. Rather go for something smaller. Like a 45AH battery.

An friend of mine had something similar. Bought UPS, kept the PC up for like 20 sec then went down. Put in new (bigger) battery and all is well.

Also, I think it is inefficient to have 12V batteries, then go through a converter to 230V then another converter back to 12V and then into the router. Surely one could hook it up directly? No idea how to do the recharging on that though.

Unfortunately the cost for a switch mode power supply that will convert 12v -> 12v+ is expensive and then you still need a battery charger with a higher rating than the SWPS.

I built a unit like that for a laptop but it costs around R1k (excluding battery) for 300W. But yeah it's Double Conversion Online so thats why.
