Hi guys.

Im hoping some of you can assist me, please. I need some ideas.

A my gran is turning 100 soon and i have no idea what to get her. I do not want to get something big or too materialistic, given her age. Initially it was going to be a photo album. When i last visited, the pictures i had sent where not framed nor in an album so i thought an album book with a nice black cover page with gold embossed lettering wishing a happy 100th birthday or something, followed by a letter and more recent family pictures etc. (Have since turned from this idea.).

If you are wondering why i dont just visit- she resides in another country and i do not have the funds to go see her. I had planned to but something came up and shot those funds down in flames, before i had barely saved enough to get it off the ground.

I was thinking about a personalised coin or something but I would prefer if she is able to add her own personalisation to it - like a fingerprint or something?

This way, when the day does arrive, it could become a family heirloom of sorts.?

Im not sure what to get, all i know is i want it to be meaningful and something that can become more than just another item to be sorted, when she eventually punches her ticket. ( i know its a bit of a morbid way of thinking but im trying to be realistic here.)

I look forward to your feedback. TIA.

What a milestone. Congrats to the lady.

I agree that an extravagant or expensive gift is unnecessary.

Why not write a hand-written letter thanking her for all she is, does, and has done.

I do this quite regularly already hence why i want to add a momento of sorts with it. Something small, yet meaningful, able to stand the test of time, as she has done do far.

Why did you change your mind about a family album? It's the perfect gift.

A small (remember she's frail) gorgeous album, first pics of her and her husband, then their children, then their grandchildren in group photos.

Inscription "without you none of these people would exist...."

Like the photo album idea, maybe try and add a family tree to it as well, with short articles of significant historical events on the timeline. She can reminisce and think back how she lived through those times.

I would have suggested an electronic photo frame that randomly plays photos but you'd need to load it here and then trust the courier gods

Or maybe a photo album of your life … and her other grandkids' lives.

She has already seen her own life, but maybe not her grandkids' lives as much as she would have wanted to.

Show her that.
