So a few months ago I upgraded my line to 10MB. I was initially delighted, but I wasn't able to get more than 60kB's download most of the time. I reverted back to my 4MB line as it was always solidly 4Mbps.

Now I upgraded again, and it seems my problems haven't changed. If I reboot and attempt a download, I get just under 9Mbps and speedtests show roughly the same. But after a couple of hours, I get stuck at around 60kB again.

Anyone know why this happens, any advice?

PS - It's not an exchange distance issue.

If you arent having problems with 4 meg and are with 10 meg then it clearly means that there is a prob with the strength of the signal you are receiving.

Can you post your line stats: SNR Attenuation etc..

10Mb, not 10MB, know the difference.... it could save your life.

You should be happy that your system can even attempt to sync at 10Mb. There is not one exchange in the whole Centurion that supports 10Mbps. So much for being next door to the Telkom Datacentre.

I'm not happy that I can sync at 10 meg if I get less than half a meg from it most of the time! When it works its a dream, but sadly its a small percentage of the time.

Here are my line stats:
Port Status TxPkts RxPkts Collisions Tx B/s Rx B/s Up Time
WAN PPPoE 40078 62149 0 3229 74350 00:17:14

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 10015 kbps 1023 kbps
Line Attenuation 18.5 db 11.0 db
Noise Margin 13.8 db 9.1 db

See if your SNR improves by changing the speed to 6/8 meg. See at which point it becomes stable. gl

Use a proper DSL filter and modem, and your noise margin might improve enough to hold a stable 10Mbps sync

Why not ask telkom to set your profile to 8meg?

What isp and package are you on?
