10mbps? How to get it?

What can you guys tell me about my stats?
I have one of the original SpeedTouch Home ADSL modems.
To me it looks like I am getting 5MB.
The 8MB attainable seems to be ringing a bell from the POTS DMT discussions

Looks like you are indeed on a 5mbit line. With your Attenuation you are probably lucky the line is stable, however you could always try 6mbit, but that will maybe or probably drop your SNR too low. A SNR of 10 is good, should be stable, but if it drops to 6db you might have an unstable line. So all you can do is to try, but chances are you will have to go back to 5mbit.
 
Hey guys, it seems you okes know your adsl stuff, so I want to see what your take on my issue is.

I have been on a 4 meg line for about 6 months, in the beginning it was at 6, and I had a ping of 13ms stable for a week. By the way, this is once a technician came and replaced my line at my house because I was having constant disonnects on my 1 meg line. So I upgraded to 4. My snr and att were perfect at 28 and 18. So there was no issue there. Anyway.....

The line was replaced and I was on getting 6Mbps, at a stable 13ms ping to mweb.co.za. Then a week after, my ping was from 37-250+ms. Called mweb, they took me down to 4Mbps, no change in the ping. Now its between 38-8000+ms, yup, 8000+. I have had 6 technicians come and they all say the line is fine. And they have no freaking clue what latency is. The one techie thought is was my password for my pc. wtf?!?!?!!!?!

So, what I would like to know is, what caused this spike in my ping from a stable 13ms to what it is now? Could it be the dslam, or my physical port on the exchange?

What are your thoughts on this, so I can suggest it to telkom. And how would I go about getting a new physical port? Have been thinking about ordering a new line, even paying for the bloody install just so I can get the desired ping. We have another line on the property that has a stable ping of 30ms. So I have no idea whats going on. At some times, its stable for about half an hour then goes all over the place. And all at different times of the day. There is no pattern.

I am still syncing at 4095/507. with an snr of 28 and att of 18.
