I was having a look at my router stats today and I came across this interesting little value that says; "Attainable Rate (Kbps): 10148 352".

Stats

My question is, what does it mean by "Attainable Rate"? Is that the speed my line is capable of or is that the speed the exchange is capable of? My router is still syncing at 4096. I am not connected to one of the exchanges mentioned in the 10Mbps trial but I am in the area. So am I one of the lucky ones or what? :)

YES

it would be great if that is the speed ur line can handle but if it is ur upstream is terrible with regards to the Attainable Rate , same speed as ur 4Meg

My line speed has been terrible lately since all the rain we've had (I assume). Used to be much better.

Edit: Had another look at my stats, the attainable rate seems to be varying with time. Does that mean there's a problem with my line?

I'm going to steal the thread for a moment here because there aren't any relevant topics elsewhere:

That in itself is not really special, but I've just seen download speeds of 450Kb/s on average, topping out at 2Mb/s for a 12MB driver file from a HP server in America ^_^ And using the stock Internet Explorer 6 downloader. Its a pity this is at work, and not my line at home (which I will have shortly).

Edit: Also, what's the code for inserting images into a post? Normal vBullitetin tags don't work :-/

I'm in Sea Point :) Syncing at 10Meg :)

Feel free to hate me right now, I upgraded to 4Meg recently at my office and am running at 10Meg atm. I think it was a bit strange though, with my home line (which is 384k), when I was downloading something, my speed was steadily at 40KB/s and then jumped to a steady 75KB/s for about half an hour during a download!

Dem, I can see Greenpoint stadium from my house but my exchange is in Cape Town CBD (on corner of Barrack and Buitenkant) and I am still syncing at 4096 :-(

You are working of the Barrack Str. exchange which is a pretty big one in layman terms.
