Is Telkom still upgrading sites, or are we stuck on 4mbps for all eternity?

Statistically the chances are higher for your exchange to become severely congested and go down the tubes, instead of it being upgraded to 10 mbps.

So most people who actually have a stable 4mbps connection should consider themselves fortunate.

We have Telkom's next generation network to thank for this.

Did you have to request it? I've been wanting to find out how to get it done myself the past week.

Nope. Just noticed my line was disconnecting a lot. When I checked my line stats I saw I was on 7meg.

I called to request 6meg and have been rock solid ever since.

Your exchange needs to be connected to its upstream DPSU with fibre/metro-ethernet for it to be 10mbps capable.

To put things into perspective for you :

You really need to understand that your exchange is 1 of the extremely few that support those speeds, and as you just said you've had to request Telkom to drop your line speed to 6mbps, therefore your exchange is also not capable of providing a 10mbps ADSL line.
