Hey guys, I have gone through the posts and couldn't see anything relevant to this, and I didn't want to hijack another thread.

Telkom is ALLEGEDLY busy with 10Meg upgrades to their lines, but according to this I am still not eligible.

Does anyone have an idea of how long these upgrades will take? Don't get me wrong, my 4MB line is awesome and extremely stable so I wouldn't want to upgrade and then have an unstable line - however I would like to get onto the fastest dsl and enjoy the benefits associated with that.

Does anyone know anything? Is there a call centre setup specifically for this, or just the normal channels?

1. Yes, their internal planning section does.
2. No, they will not release that information.

well i dont think that availablility checker means much really.. Comes up green saying that my exchange does support 10 mbps but when i phone telkom they say that my exchange currentlly does not support it..

+1 Epic Fail

I reckon they started upgrading and ran out of capacity then stopped and they not telling us.

when i ordered my line again after telkom canceled ny service me by mistake, i was told that my exchange only supports 512 speeds... i had the do 3 package before they cancelled and had a stable 4mbps connection... they advised me to order the 512 and after it has been activated, to phone back and ask to bumped up to 4mbps.

So after 3months, yes i waited 3 months, i had my connection back. I then phoned telkom again, asking them to bump me up. which the lovely lady replied to that my exchange does not support the speeds. None the less, i convinced her to bump it up as an other consultant told me that some people are lucky and will get 4mbps speeds even if the exchange only supports 384. So she did it and told me it would take two days.

Well, two minutes later, really, two minutes later, i was on a 10mbps connection. http://www.speedtest.net/result/986652939.png

oh and, that 10mbps checker reports that the 10mbps service is not available in my area yet...

I guess its a matter of 90% luck and 10% something else with telkom.

Suppose I shouldn't moan then? My line is, after all, extremely stable and I have excellent pings and DL speeds... I downloaded an episode of Supernatural yesterday @ an average of 430KB/ps - speedtest confirms a 4MB line; 20ms response to Midrand...

I think everyone should just be patient. All 4mbps connection are gonna be converted to 10mbps eventually.

well i have 3 people on my exchange that are 10 meg... but when i phone them they tell me my exchange isnt capable :/ so ya... luck of the draw.

I suppose, like I said - will wait patiently and see what happens. At least I can't complain about what I have now. Would just be nice getting full value...

In a query thread recently on this forum - not one person in Centurion (Pretoria) could confirm an upgrade.

In August when I queried Telkom - told by them that my exchange had been upgraded and tested in August and was fine for 10Mbps.

Now told last week that exchange not upgraded.

Nobody at Telkom can tell you what is happening - indeed one wonders whether anything is actually happening.
Perhaps RPM can dig a bit deeper.....

This is indeed an epic fail on Telkom's side.

And they will probably wonder why they struggle to get clients for 8ta

...most of Telkom and other BEE certified companies' employees can't read.

When calling pretend to speak Afrikaans and insit to be served in Afrikaans, you might get an answer.
