I can literally quote HUNDREDS of sources indicating that biofuels is a dead end. I'm unfortunately not in the mood so the following few will have to suffice for now:
And I could literally quote THOUSANDS more, of sources indicating that biofuels is a very good option indeed.

What no one can deny is that Bio-fuels, have certainly had a great deal of improvements, in the past few years, and that many more improvements very likely to be made, and that many are only starting to work their way into comercilisation right now, this is a very good option, results are evident and very progressive, it keeps on getting better, and it does not take decades to see huge improvements in this field, oil does not get better, it only gets worse, which is why bio-fuels are an eminent option to oil, for the next few decades.

Until we reach the ultimate road vehicle fuel which is said to be either hydrogen or battery.

phenom and StrongTurd - I think that you guys both have valid points WRT to biofuels. Biofuels from food crops such as maize or soya are a bad idea and are NOT sustainable. However, biofuels from non-food crops that grow in traditionally non-arable land (like jatropha) or in very high energy concentrations (like algae) are possibly a viable option.

Regardless though, it will be a long time before SUSTAINABLE biofuel production volumes can rival that of oil.

the efficiency of these biofuels have scene many improvements, and will continue to, investment into this field, is necessary to see more improvements, improvements, which will eventually take up less space, and provide more fuel, it may be a bad for the short-term, but will get much better in the longer-term or a few years.

the food prices would have risen regardless, food prices naturally rise if the price of oil rises, which bio-fuels could have offset abit by providing an alternative to it.

So it could also be said that bio-fuels have factors which actually lower the price of food, owing to price of oil is being lowered, due to the competition biofuels brings.

And, besides, the current rising price of food could also be blamed on climate change, and biofuels also counters this, which should also add another factor to why biofuels lowers the price of food.http://www.treehugger.com/files/2008/04/biofuel-_myth-corn-ethanol-global-food-shortages.php

over and above, getting more food available will simply spark even more irresponsibility in developing nations, as their people don't plan families, and have too many children for what they could take care of, more food simply means more children to them, and thus, they will have more, so that we will have a "food shortage problem" all over again, eventually these people will need to learn some responsibilities, the sooner, the better, yes i hate saying it, but theres no way around that.
