I’m sharing this because I’d like to hear if anyone else has experienced something similar with 123NET, especially around relocations and contract terms.
Recently I tried to relocate my 123NET fibre service to a new address. The new address was confirmed as having 123NET fibre coverage, and I was asked to sign a new agreement for the new premises.
After giving proper notice, I was suddenly told there was a R2,500 termination/installation fee, even though this fee does not appear anywhere in my signed agreement and is not stated in their relocation clause. Based on their own Terms & Conditions, this fee only applies if they cannot provide service at the new address. They confirmed coverage, so the penalty made no sense.
When I disputed it, they initially agreed in writing to waive the fee once the new line went active. However, after activation, they refused to terminate my old account unless I first withdrew my NCC complaint, which I found very concerning. Contractual performance can’t be made conditional on withdrawing a consumer-rights complaint.
When I wouldn’t withdraw it prematurely, they reversed their position and said the R2,500 fee now applies again.
I’ve now kept the case open with the NCC and logged an ICASA complaint as well.
