1394 network adapter

IEEE 1394 bus. Would just like to know what it is and what exactly its used for.

I noticed this connection under network connections and Microsofts explanation leaves much to be desired.

Funny thing is that I have two network ports on my mboard and when I bridge these connections (as they are both in use) I have funny problems when certain people host games on the LAN. However yesterday I added this connection to the network bridge and suddenly everyone sees everyone on the LAN, but im not convinced this was the problem, maybe I did something else too cant really remember.

Anyway a good easy explanation would be nice :)
 
Dude.. from what i remember this is the firewire port on your motherboard. u can disable it via the device manager. I might be wrong tho, but i usually disable it. Uhm apparently the cool thing about firewire is that u can hook pc's directly together to form like a mini network without anything else, unlike USB which won't work if you try the same thing.

Seems you are right, however its still a little unclear as to how I would use it, I assume my Firewire is the cable version and it improves my transfer and network stability??? Does it affect my LAN Port???

Im gonna go home and check for any other ports on my mboard but dont recall seeing anything that relates to firewire. Its the ASUS PCI express deluxe board, cant remember the model. The one that looks like a hotrod and has socket 939AMD for my Dual4200+.

Sorry if this sounds really noob but Im just not seeing the relation with firewire and how it affects me.
 
No firewire does not interfere with your lan ports. Firewire is like USB in a way as it says in that description it is mostly used for video capturing. You said you've bridged the 2 lan ports? Was both of them directly connected to a hub/switch or did you use your lan ports to connect two pc's to yourself? You can bridge them when you connect both of them to a switch. In it's the second case maybe you haven't used crossover cables
 
Yeah, Firewire is like USB(2) - if you connect PC's together with it you can get 400mbit transfer rates out of it.

I use mine for capturing digital video from a camcorder.
 
Reason why I bridged them is because --- Cable (A) goes to pc one ---
Cable (B) goes to a wireless router. Remember I have two LAN ports on my mboard (Cable A and B).

For some reason pc one (Cable A) can only see past my pc to cable (B) if I bridge the connections. Both Local Area Connection1 and Local Area Connection2. Then IPs are also dynamic and pc one can use internet provided by an ADSL router connected to Wireless router.

At the Wireless router there are more PC's linked up, both cable and wireless. Yes it is a bit of a mess but the Wireless router side is not mine but my Brother in-law's so I cant really play around on the router side.
