13th salary tax

Some companies (well mine does).. will allow you to spread the tax portion of your 13th cheque over the entire year.. so that when you receive your 13th cheque (birthday bonus or whatever).. you get the full amount.. to put towards a holiday or something special.

Brilliant, so you pay SARS in advance and allow them to earn interest on your money!

That would depend on when you opt to receive your bonus. You could choose to receive it at the beginning of the year and pay the tax of that bonus off over the remainder of the year.
