After my LG died (lasted an amazing 10 years), I replaced it with a proper ASUS.
The 144Hz is amazing for work, much less strain on my eyes. Overall, I'm quite happy with it.
But here's the part that I don't understand..
My GPU is somewhat dated, but was powerful enough to run Thief (the latest one) on full graphics, at 1680x1050 (old LG)
But when I started it up with the new monitor, even the main menu was lagging. 1680 to 1920 isn't that much of a jump.
So I started testing.
At lowest graphics settings, I get around 20fps.
But if I go back into the desktop and change the monitor to 60hz, Thief runs fluid again at 50+ fps.
To my understanding, let's make it 120Hz to keep the numbers simple, if you render at 120hz, the GPU has to do double the work compared to 60Hz. But my experience so far suggests that it's more than 4x the work?? How does that work?
