Hey all!

When it comes to wireless internet such as 3G or HSDPA etc I am such a noob:(

I want to get something wireless for my fiance' and my laptop. How much does it cost, what does one need. Which service provider is there a prepaid option>?

If you have vodacom, dial *111# and go to the bundle section - the prices are there. ( it's a good idea to sit on the toilet for this one otherwise you might ch1t your pants)

you can easilly convert airtime into bundles this way.

you need a modem then too

the other option is to go on contract and get the modem free, and wait for your provider to rape you with some exorbitant bill.

good luck.

So I can basically use my phone! With a vodacom simcard, convert the airtime to a bundle. Thats it?

if your phone supports it, and you have a cable, then Yes.

Thanks to the guys such as Keeper who replied here. And of cause my friend who PMed me. However I expected more people to reply or assist. This is Mybroadband after all?

If you do not want a contract do the following:

Buy a 3G USB modem from poynting direct
Buy a Billion 7402GX from poyting direct, you might get the router cheaper at some other places or another model like the B7402GXL
Buy a prepaid card, either from MTN or VODACOM, load data bundles onto it and plug the card into the router. You and your missus can now connect via wireless to the router.

If you want a contract do the following.

Buy a Billion 7402GX or 7402GXL router.
Go to VODA or MTN and get a 3G USB modem on contract.
Plug the card into the router and happiness will overcome you.

I have a Huawei 3G modem from Vodacom with the 500 MB bundle. I think I pay around R280 a month for it. It is actually my back-up system for when I am on the road or the power is down. I'm quite satisfied with its performance.

Thanks for all the advice guys!
