Ahoy all

I have to replace my two front tyres urgently - and was quoted R2739 at TWT Bree Street, Cape Town.

Each tyre is +/- R1000 ex vat (Continental NCT5 - 195/55/R15 I think)
and the other significant amounts are for "insurance" (anyone used this tyre insurance before? Apparently it's for blowouts etc, with the amount paid out pro-rata'd over the Kms driven up to 50000) - this is 122.81 per tyre, ex vat.

Does this look right to everyone?

Never knew replacing 2 tyres would cost this much:wtf:

I thought 195/50/15s where generally R500 each, so cant see why yours should cost much more

sounds too expensive. i bought Conti Sport Contact 16" . 2 for about R3000 incl. fitment, alignment and nitrogen.

Maybe the price has to do with that particular profile/thread combination.
I also got the same shock when I was qouted R3000 per tyre for 215/55/16. They told me it's not very common profile/thread combination in S.A and is therefore imported (Dunflops)

Got myself some Bridgestone MY-01s for R500ea (incl.) beginning of the year from SupaQuick, also 195/50/R15. They are low profile tho, but grip is excellent, no complaints so far.

Update: Hi-Q seemed to be the cheapest by far. Got 2x 195/55/R15 Goodyears fitted and balanced for R1620.

Hi-Q's Service was average-to-good (Compared to TWT who are honestly one of the benchmarks for good service in SA)
Hi-Q were extremely fast, so assuming they did as good of a job as TWT do, I'm happy.

Note to future-tyre-bugers: NEGOTIATE THE PRICES and SHOP AROUND!! If I had accepted the quote on the spot at TWT, I would have paid R1000 more (even without taking that insurance)
Also, when they say their brand has "better roadhandling, better grip, better cross threads etc etc" - don't listen. Every tyre salesman has told me exactly the same story for every brand.

What's with all the "threads" stuff? You can't get fabric-belted tyres anymore, they're all steelbelt.
