Hey all - anyone out there know where I can get hold of a 15 metre RCA cable to connect TV (DVD) and hi-fi?

Let me know please - I am in Durban, but should be cheap nough to post from elsewhere.

Thanks.

I have seen 10 meter in Makro, not sure about 15 meter, I guess you can order it somewhere, some AV shop, or you can buy the cable on meter and the jacks and make it yourself, it is very easy as it is only one wire

Cablelink in Strydom Park, Randburg would probably make it up for you.

why don't you make one - its so not difficult... solder, soldering iron, some RCA plugs, and the right cable. - how's your soldering technique ??? it'll cost a fraction of the price of buying one - really!

A1 Radio in Umgeni Road with have all the parts you need, very easy to put together ;)

Go into any car sound place they sell the longer lengths for car installs..

I suppose you only looking for 2 x 2 for the sound.Normally they come in blue in 10m & 15m(zakspeed).Rather buy the ones at a car sound place.Better quality as they're made for high power sound in mind.

Thanks for all the advice. Got cable and gold-plated jacks to make it up myself from Space TV and Satellite store in Durban. Far cheaper than buying already made-up ones in stores (maximum 10m).

Sorry I only saw the thread now...
but if you dont come right NCST make up any cables you need any lenghth and do it well.

Thanks Skydog. I did call them and they were a lot more expensive. Anyhow, I now have the cable, but can't seem to get it to work decently. There is a terrible hum when connected, with some sound coming through as well. I moved the hi-fi temporarily so that I could use a 1m RCA cable and that worked fine. What could be causing this?

Your soldering technique. The hum is normally caused by the earth wire having high resistance. You should resolder the plugs to the lead.

either that, or it is mains hum...

if you need a 15m cable, chances are the items you are connecting together are on different mains electrical outlets.

try the following..bring the items closer together, so you can connect them to the same power outlet, then use your 15m cable to connect them...if the hum is still there then your cable/soldering is faulty...if the hum disappears then you have a ground loop problem, and would need some form of isolation transformer to get rid of it.
