16:9 vs Just Scan

Hey guys,

I've got a LG 42" LCD, when I connect my PS3 to the HDMI port it does 1080p fine. When I connect my HTPC at 1920x1080 the desktop goes outside of the edges of the screen. This is when it's set to 16:9, when I set it to Just Scan it resolves the problem but the scaling doesn't look too kosher.

Any suggestions as to how to remedy this?

Check if the TV has a setting for Native Resolution/PC Mode in the menu.

They way you have it should be correct...

"Just Scan" is correct to view the full 1920x1080 image (it disables overscan). Maybe try labeling the input on the LCD to "PC". This is normally referred to a 1:1 pixel mapping (like a normal PC and monitor). This mode is meant to have no scaling.

Another option is to enable overscan on your HTPC (some GFx cards allow this), and set the LCD to 16:9 mode (enable overscan) - however, this mode normally looks worse, as the HTPC is squashing the desktop image (1920x1080) by a few lines due to overscan, and then the LCD is stretching it again to fill the 1920x1080 screen.

I had the same problem ... mine is a PC with a Nvidia HDMI card. If you have the same or similar, there should be an setting in the Nvidia control panel to define the borders of the screen.

Well the funny thing is I didn't have the problem with my EN210 but its happening with the onboard hdmi on my H55 chipset board.
