165 arrested in weekend operations

More than 165 suspects have been arrested during high-density operations by police officials of the Uitenhage Cluster this weekend. The operations started on Friday evening and lasted until early this morning.

Police said a number of suspects were arrested for a variety of charges, including robbery, theft, possession of stolen goods and assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm.

Sixteen people were arrested for driving under the influence, and 40 traffic fines valued at R20000 were issued to motorists.

Nineteen people were arrested and detained after being found to be in possession of drugs.

A further 50 fines were issues for liquor-related offences.
