Hi Guys,

I have a 17" Dell Studio and I need to get a decent backpack for it. I just got a scooter to take me to and from work but I have been putting it in my small backpack and tying it up tight - not the best idea long term.

Anybody bought a good 17" bag - something trendy looking as well as functional.

I have a 'up to 16" ' Targus backpack and my 17" HP EliteBook fits without issue. I'm also on a bike and it quite comfortable if a bit heavy.

I suggest you go to the shop with your laptop and try it - only way to be sure.

My Targus has proven pretty robust over the years I've had it, maybe as per lestoran just go look around, either luggage shops or incredible deception (you don't have to buy there but they carry stock so you can get an idea of the product).

Best bag I have ever had is a Crumpler BaseJumper. On a trip to Vegas, I wedged a 15" MacBookPro, as well as a 17" MBP into it, and still had space for various bits and pieces. Bag is 8 years old, and still looks and feels like new.

While the BaseJumper is no longer sold, I'd suggest looking at the Crumpler range to see if there is something there that appeals. They are expensive, sure, but if you consider the expected life of the bag, it turns out to be quite reasonable.

I use an Axio bag, its meant for bikers have a look at this site: Axio

Man these are hot!! Thanks alot for everyones advice. I think I am going to take my time on this one. Happy to spend my $$$ on something that will last!

Had this bag, quite nice. Very spacious and it has a nifty raincoat that covers the entire bag. The shoulder straps started showing signs of tearing after a while though so don't load heavy things in it (Other than your laptop of course).

Check out the Dicota range as well, most are very affordable and good quality.

I have this one for a 15.6":

Had it about 2 years now, and the thing goes through the wars. Carried it with me everywhere, daily, since then and it really does look good. Think mine was R250. Only downside is that it doesnt have tons of space, enough for either 2 laptops or 1 laptop and my notepad/tools.

EDIT: Well, it did look good, till we got a cat :p
