18 year sentence for wifi hacker

The title is actually a tad misleading since his real crime was not the hacking, it was what he hacked for.

A Minnesota hacker that prosecutors described as a "depraved criminal" was handed an 18-year prison term Tuesday for unleashing a vendetta of cyberterror that turned his neighbors' lives into a living nightmare.

After the husband explained to his law office superiors that he had no idea what was happening, his bosses hired a law firm that examined his network and discovered that an "unknown" device had access to it. With Kostolnik's permission, they installed a packet sniffer on his network to try and get to the bottom of the incidents.

The victim was lucky that his bosses supported him because the investigation would have cost plenty.

The attacker deserved eighteen years.

Because it was their own employee, it would have been a conflict of interests. An independent law firm would be unbiased

This guy really hates other people, he should move into the woods or something far away from anyone else's WiFi. It's disturbing the lengths he goes to.

I support hackers all the way, crackers on the other had is a problem.

I just wish people would have used the terms properly, but the media stuffed up the whole idea behind hacking, guess the damage is done now and we should properly refer to them has black hats instead of just hacker.

I hack my Linux servers all the time, to get functionality out of them that was not designed. Hell rooting your Android phone or jailbreaking an iPhone is actually hacking even when you using "tools" and I guess you have no problem with that?
