180ms to Riot Games servers?

So I recently noticed that pings to Riot Games servers (League of Legends, Teamfight Tactics, and 2XKO) seem to have increased by about 20ms from 160ms to roughly 180ms to the EU servers in game. I did a ping check to the CISP UK test server (uktest.cisp.co.za) and it was sitting at around 140ms which is what it usually sits at, so it's not an overall connection thing.

Unfortunately I don't have any other online games to check at the moment but I did do a test with a generic online Fortnite tool which shows 160ms to the EU. When I do I'll double check but at the moment I just wanted to find out if this is a Riot Games thing from anyone who might know.

Black Ops has sucked chickens for almost 2 weeks now. I literally cannot play and i'm on high-end Ubiquity equipment with a 1Gbps line on Cool Ideas. Its ridiculous.

We would need to see how the route looks, i hope they aren't moving to Cloud providers basically like all games these days.

What does it look like with the Madrid VPN?

Sorry, only saw this now. For some weird reason none of the Riot Games would (sorry typo) start when I was using the UK or Madrid VPNs. The menus/clients would load, but when it came time to try and get into an actual game, it would just sit loading for both the UK and Madrid VPN. I'll double check this at lunch.

So a quick update, I can't even log in to the Riot Games client with either the UK or Madrid VPN. I have to use the default connection.

Yeah Riot games blocks access from providers like Digital ocean, OVH, Scaleway, M247, Feralhosting, Nforce, Hetzner etc

When you connect via VPN you only need to tunnel the actual game server through the vpn. For EUW League of Legends its 162.249.72.0/24

What is you ping to 162.249.72.0?

Riot uses anycast and they have their own network so the physical server is in Frankfurt but ISPs will see that anycast proxy at a bunch of IXs in EU. LINX, DE-CIX Madrid, Frunkfurt, Paris, AMS-IX and few other places then the traffic goes on their network to the actual server location.

So quick update, when I log into the Riot Games client and try to start a game, it now won't start games on the Madrid connection. The UK will start the game but then it won't find any games. So ultimately, I can't test latency when either of these VPN connections are active with Riot Games games.

I am on WiFi so looking at 150ms from CT on CISP

That looks like LINX maybe. DE-CIX Madrid would be around 130ms or so. So CISP needs to favour DE-CIX Madrid maybe with a local pref of weight value but the return will still be an issue so maybe de-peer them at LINX.

May I ask what is that madrid stuff people are talking about
I normally get 170ms to dota servers (EU WEST) and I ping 141ms to that IP 162.249.72.0
is there a way to reduce my latency ?

Nope, unless you move so you are no longer at the bottom of Africa.

Or convince them to fire up a local server here.

Not meaning to highjack here, but wondering if peering with Marvel Rivals is also possible? Connection to EUW servers sits at 190+ for me.

Where are you located?

Marvel Rivals uses Google so all traffic is via JHB first.

Dammam is 120ms from JHB.

My pings to the servers:

In-game, the ping increases by about 10.

I don't have any downloads or things running, and connected via network cable, not wifi.
