L1970HR-WF

but wanted to know if there are other makes in same rage + quality ?

thnx

A wide-screen lcd has a smaller viewable area than a regular lcd, but IMHO a widescreen seems a lot better.

^^agreed, Samsungs are awesome. What amount of money are you willing to spend? Maybe we can suggest a nice one for you :)

This weekend I bought a viewsonic 22 inch wide for R2999. Its an amazing screen (I mean c'mon its a viewsonic) at computer corporation in centurion.

Sorry to derail your thread but if you are looking for an alternative, its a good option

widescreen not so good on games that don't scale - good for design bad for gaming from what i've gathered...

will look at links thnx

Most new games will have 1440x900 resolution available and the ones that don't, leave the black empty spaces on the side so it doesn't stretch and you end up with a square display anyway...

What sought of games are you talking about? Most games that don't scale well have widescreen fixes, and the benefit of a widescreen in games that do scale well is quite substantial.

IMO the advantages outweigh the disadvantages, but its purely up to personal preference I guess.

Edit: You can get the Samsung 2232GW 22" LCD from Digital Addiction for R2499

well this is for a graphic design station and then obviously some gaming on it - just don't want to spend that amount of cache to find games gone screwy

if you playing 5 year old games you will have a problem

new games all support widescreen, widescreen is selling more than non widescreen

infact i read somewhere that 22" inch monitors are out selling any other " monitor

A widescreen will be extremely beneficial when doing graphics design, the 2232GW can fit 2 A4 pages next to each other on the screen. Photoshop will be a pleasure to use :)

I'm a designer and photoshop is awesome!
Esp CS3 cos there are a lot of tools on the left & right of the screen. I work with very high DPI documents so I could never get to view my stuff at a decent zoom without having to scroll. Now, no more scrolling :)

Like some other posts here, I'd say you should check up on some games sometime. The last 20 or so I had a lookie at all but one had a proper widescreen support. The only one to not really support widescreen was Quake II, I think it was. Supports the widescreen format of 640x480, which is around 450x350 ish?

okeeee i've settled on a 20" wide, 5000 contrast and 2ms gtg :)
