Litre of fresh milk
R7.50
Six pack of beer
dunno still don't drink beer

Yeah similar story, bought a flat in 2002 for R149 000 sold it in 2010 for R480 000.

Inflation FTW/L

I didn't care about prices in 1999 since I was 13 years old at the time. But I do recall buying 750ml Black Label beer for R6 in 2002 and these days it's R10.

Property prices were flat for about 20 years then in 2002/2003 they started to climb. Now it seems that they'll be flat for the next twenty years or even drop off. Food should be a better indication of change.

What about Junior Mac Burger price in '99 vs '11. Anyone?

petrol price June 1999 - R2.23/l
petrol price April 2009 - R7.38/l
petrol price December 2011 - R10.00+/l

madness!!!!!!

dad bought a flat near shelly beach for R250,000 --- 2001. Sell it now for R1 mil

Yeah, the guys that bought good property early 2000s late 90s are sitting pretty now :)

Dad bought two plots in Scarborough (past Kommetjie) in 1955 for ÂŁ5 each. Yes ÂŁ10 in total. People told him he was mad, no-one lives there, too cold and misty, no electricity, poor road. Same plot today is worth R 1,1m (in theory since that is the going rate). He sold the one in 2001 for R 320 000. I have the other one. Sea view, a bit windy but where isn't this time of year. Council charge me R 165 a month for "services".

Actually also the same as our property in JHB, ballies bought it for R35,000 in about 1985, now sells for R1 mil +

My mom use to give me R5 for school in 1997/8 I use to buy 1 packet of chips and 1 cocke with it. I had 50c left.

in 1999 she gave me R5 and I no longer had 50 c left.

I saw the other day that a price for a coke is about R8 and for a packet of chips around R5..
So it is R13 :(

Yeah, I was in standard 9 (grade 11) in 1999. 8 bucks got you a coke and pie. Now probably double that.

at my school tuck shop Donuts cost R1 (they were huge too) I was probably in grade 1 (1997) I remember it clearly because it was the last time i saw the big R1 coin. Whatever happened to them :)

1999 used to go to out and prices of alcohol were so low you could party the whole night for 200 bucks. One night we were coming home from Midrand to Randburg and we had no petrol and only 10 bucks left, put it in the little Ford and we got around 5 lt which was enough to get us home. Man 200 bucks now barely covers supper for 2 at Spur.
