1GB or 512MB - 4870

Ok I got 2 offers that seems good to me... Prob is there's a R1000 diff...


one is a Force 3D 512MB 4870, few months old.

one is a Sapphire 1GB 4870, month or 2 old.

Can anyone tell me if the extra 512MB makes a huge diff on a 22" LCD running at 1680X1050. Is it worth R1000 more?

Also if I go CF later will that MB size make a diff then?

id say got for the 1GB...can never have enough video memory...

1GB = R3500

just got a new deal. Brand new 1GB Sapphire is going for R3200 exl vat.

+1 I'm also looking for the prices you are planning on paying. Imagine if you planned on paying R4K and we never had the opportunity to share with you the fact that you could have gotten one of these babies for ~R3K new!

But yes, more memory is usually better - especially if you plan to eg. play GTA4. Otherwise I would never pay R1K more just for a 1GB memory card... 512MB difference just ain't worth it on a student budget.

Edit: Where can you get the 1GB for R3200?

look at PC international. It's a Sapphire 1GB card. It has the extra cooling. This is it:

that is R3200 exl vat.. So it's around R3700.

I've heard the difference between 512MB and 1GB on a 22" is negligible.

In a year, it's quite possible that there will be a card for that R1000 that owns the 512MB version.
