Not sure if this has been done yet.
It would be nice to see what the experience of all the 1 Mb / 4Mb ADSL users are.

Downstream
SNR = 11dB
Attenuation = 40.5dB

Upstream
SNR = 13dB
Attenuation = 20.5dB

Sync speed
Up: 384000
Down: 1696000

Telkom Speed test
# Estimated line speed: 2270.5 (kilobits/second)
# Estimated line speed: 278.2 (kiloBytes/second)

HAH! you think his is low:
DOWN UP
SNR Margin 6 13dB
Line Attenuation 36 19dB
Data Rate 4096 384kbps

How the hell im syncing at 4096 and getting those speeds, no one knows. In last 2days SNR has dropped from 13 to 6 :(

*EDIT: And the connection is solid as a rock, only time connection gets reset is the 24hour reset...

When i did that online test with my 384 values to see if i could get 4mbit, best it said i would get was 1.5mbit...

SNR

Down 19.5
Up 14

Attenuation

Down 36
Up 19

Speed test:

* Download time: 1.047 seconds
* Size of file: 500 KiloBytes
* Estimated line speed: 3896.8 (kilobits/second)
* Estimated line speed: 477.6 (kiloBytes/second)

Not bad I'd say.....

you very lucky you get that on the speed test, i can only reach those speeds when using a download manager :(

Yeah but the speedtest is a load of bull I rate....you don't get anywhere near those speeds on the other local speedtests (gamco, sentech)

well i just logged onto telkom guest account and tried, max 43kb/s... when overseas people download on their 4mbits, do they also have to make multiple connections to reach the 1mbit+ speeds?

Don't know...

On mine I have seen some downloads (ie super popular like graphics drivers) pump down at 400kb while not using a file mangager others you have to increase the number of threads to get speeds over 300.

I must say that I have been disappointed with the capability of the line to stream video from overseas sites. Sometimes its fast enough and the streaming doesn't chug but otherwise even with 4mb the video will stall and load.

Suppose the above comes down to the limited international bandwidth we have here on the tip of the forgotten continent.

Down snr - 6.5 att - 56
Up snr - 14 att - 31

Below is the data used to calculate your download speed:

Download time: 1.078 seconds
Size of file: 500 KiloBytes
Estimated line speed: 3784.8 (kilobits/second)
Estimated line speed: 463.8 (kiloBytes/second)

How the hell do you guys get that... What isp you with?

heres mine:

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 4096 kbps 384 kbps
Line Attenuation 19.0 db 10.5 db
Noise Margin 23.1 db 12.0 db

"Your line speed is approximately 2331.4 Kbps or 285.7 kBytes/sec
( Where kb = kilobits and kB = kiloBytes )" - telkom test

"Your download speed is: 184.1 KBps, or 1472.81 Kbps" - sentech test

Very unstable. At times it is very good and no drops (usually at night time) other times it could drop about 5 - 7 times during the day

What router do you have? I would like to know whether one of those on your line would make a difference... When you do those speed tests, are you using wifi or ethernet?

It is the telkom 5102g and the test is through ethernet

Thanks for those that added their values to this post. Surely there are more people on 4Mb? Not?:confused: It will be nice to see a table of values in a spreadsheet format of SNR/Att/Sync + stability + perhaps Modem.
Anyone else think it will help?
I think the copper wire to my house must be 30+ years old. Just wondering if Telkom would re-cable to the distro-box if I call them.:confused:

have you ppls speed dropped since the trial began? previously i was able to get download speeds of upto 4mbps...but now i cant get anywhere close to that..........:(

SNR Margin up 20dB / down 12dB
Line Attenuation up 11dB / down 5dB
Data Rate up 4096kbps / down 384 kbps

Since my line was upgraded from 1 Mbps to 4 Mbps, I have about 10 disconnects per day!
No one ever asked me if I wanted to upgrade or did even bother to tell me that my line would be upgraded....

At 4 Mbps:
SNR margin: down - 14.5 dB; up - 12 dB
Line attenuation: 45 dB; up - 25.5 dB
Data rate: down - 4096 kbps; up - 384 kbps

Yesterday Telkom downgraded my line to 2 Mbps, but I am still having about 10 disconnects per day.
Now it is:
SNR margin: down - 23 dB; up - 15 dB
Line attenuation: 44.5 dB; up - 25.5 dB
Data rate: down - 2048 kbps; up - 512 kbps

OT: Also I am having problems with Telkom's DNS server: on a regular basis I can not ping the DNS server (and hence can not surf), while other internet traffic is still fine (Newsserver, FTP, Skype).
What is the best DNS server to use??
At the moment my modem (Telkom/BiPac 5102G) is set to automatically get the DNS server from the ISP. Strangely, the modem says it is using 196.43.46.190 but I can not even ping this address (!), although surfing in fine.... Bug in modem?
