Its in the pipelines, should be out later this year according to a reliable source :)

I think its rather pointless unless they addresss the CAP issue properly. At least have bigger caps, eg 50GB, I mean that would satisfy most people's media consumption for the month.

The guys that do 200+GB p/m are just hoarders and download for the sake of it. IMHO.

Well they tested 8Mbps successfully a couple years ago so they just milking the lower bandwidth offering for what they're worth without having to do much effort.

I shudder to think what the 1Mbps service would cost - time to mortgage the house maybe, that would probably pay for a few months ;)

I would get it if it wasn't too outrageously priced. Knowing Telkom it would probably be 2 x the price of 512k.

I don't download much, but when I do I want it quickly. :D

Knowing Telkomonopoly I'm sure they would price it at 16 * 512K.

Besides, it is unlikely to happen unless Telkomonopoly actually want companies to abandon Diginet lines.

Yip, all standard ADSL copper lines can go up to 8Mbits/sec but it's not only in SA though, an 8Mbit/sec line has only just been released in the UK but it is only 40pounds/month with no cap etc.

Umm... do you have any frigging idea how much that would cost???
It would be cheaper to emigrate!!!

who knows what might happen... we can still afford to dream ;)

ADSL in theory can approach 54MB/sec. In central europe the basic speed has been upped to 28MBps in some countries.

Sides whats the point of 1MB line when the latency continues to remain so high, dare online gamers dream of a day when latency will remain in the low double digits.

Just to make you feel mildly ill with jealousy :-

UK Online is offering 8Mbit broadband service to the UK. The upstream is 400K, and there's a monthly download cap of 500GB, but at 40 pounds per month, plus 50 installation and a free wireless router in the package, that has to be among the best deals on offer from anyone.

Yep folks, that's about R500 for 500GB a month and up to 8mbs d/l speeds with 33:1 contention.

Welcome to Africa, we're just so backwards over here ... :(
