1mb line giving me 100+ ping on COD4 local servers!

Hi guys i have a problem ..... i have a a 1mb line through SAOL and im haveing major issues with it when im on COD4..... i keep pingign out ..... please can some1 help to fix this problem.

1Mbit will give you around that ping, I have 4mbit and I get from 50ms- 70ms
Check that the quality of the line is good.
 
Where are you?
I am in Ramsgate KZN, and my DSL line went from 34ms lag up to 100ms lag over night.
The catch is ... teklom do not guarantee anything, so, you can call 10215 and complain, but they're not obliged to do anything.

Open a command prompt and run:
tracert saix.co.za
and post the results here. (Use the mouse to select a block top copy it)

Here's mine:

Oooooh, I see mine has had a sudden 50% improvement.

sorry my bad ... i have the 4mb line wich is the highest one u get in sa if im correct .... and before on COD4 i was getting pings of about 30 or 40 (if my bro was playing on the other comp as well) Now im hitting of excess of 100 and i keep getting kicked out because of my ping) Ive checked my router status and its said that the line is running at the right speeds so i dont know wat to do!

I get 40-80ms on my 384k line. It isn't really about the connection speed. The only advantage of a quicker line for local gaming is that you can connect more people through one line and still enjoy acceptable pings.

An ADSL line of any sort should give better local ping than 100ms, but Telkom don't guarantee that.
 
I bet its SAOL. They and Cybersmart have been having issues because they are overloading their networks.
 
there have been a few issues around with high pings, mine was about 20-30 and then went up to mid 60's but it seems to have returned to normal as from monday
 
so do u think i should phone saol and complain? Wat will they do about it if they have over loaded there servers!
 
are you sure it is* your line and not your pc causing you to have a slower con?
viruses and what not?
Did you take your pc to some one ell's con and tested it or did you use a other isp acc on your line?

Your not from S.A ?? why on earth would you come to this place?

well i know its the line because my bro has the same issue and he has his own comp using the same line! Bloody SAOL!
 
yes but you are a network Virus heaven? SO if it is the line replace it? the line goes from your phone socket till the box at the pole outside.

The mainline the neighborhoods lines are connected to goes to the exchange.

Bandwidth has no bearing on latency :D

I'm inclined to agree with zolly - have you tried another ISP or another backbone? Occasionally when SAIX has problem, IS doesn't and vice-versa.

Axxess, Nexus and WebAfrica are all worth giving a shot :3
 
Well, a traceroute, as requested in post 3 on this thread would probably show that all the latency is lost on the very first hop into the exchange, something that is not caused by the ISP, but by the exchange itself.

However, no traceroute results are forthcoming, so, no conclusion can be reached.

You scared me for a sec - I thought I skipped a post :p

I originally had a similar problem with my latency, it was also the exchange. So it's probable. Just suggesting trying something else too :p
 
I would bet my bottom dollar on SAOL being the culprit. I have the same line speed (although it has been said that bandwidth has no bearing on latency) and was getting 130ms ping on speedtest.net. When I changed to axxess I got 11ms.
