Hey guys,

I would like to know if anyone uses the 1MB telkom ADSL line to play online PC games? I want to play BF3 and COD MW3, but have no experience with ADSL. I am not too worried about dowload speeds, but latency in 64 player maps.

I will be purchasing the do advanced broadband bundle. I live in Northwold, Randburg.

Thanks guys

1Mbps is more than enough for games.

Most games should work just fine on 384kbps, unless you're trying to host in which case 192kbps upload speed isn't enough.

The only game I played so far that didn't work very well on 384kbps ADSL was CoD:Black Ops. It's server browser didn't really have proper filters, so the list was too big & reloaded too frequently for 384kbps ADSL to handle it properly.

The 1mb Telkom uncapped account was the best account I ever had. Everything just worked for the last 3 months, no shaping, good youtube buffering and excellent pings. Until Monday night, when everything went downhill. After about 19:30 at night, my line almost became completey unusable. Pings to local servers would sit at 600ms+. During the day the account is fine, but at night, when I actually want to do some online gaming, the line basically dies. I've changed accounts as well to IS, but the latency remains crap. After searching around here, it seems a lot people are having issues in the Bellville north area due a congested exchange. Is there anything that can be done about this? I'm paying R800 a month now for something I can't use. :(

@Penquin:
I think all you can do is to log faults with Telkom, and to get everyone else in your area to do the same.
Hopefully that will speed up the process of getting the exchange back into working order...
