1mbps uncapped MWEB internet strange speeds

Hi,

I have a 1mbps shaped uncapped adsl account with Mweb. When I download a 200mB file, it takes ~30 minutes, but when I download a 1GB file, it takes about 3 hours! Why does it do this? Can I prevent this?

1GB = 5x 200MB
1GB = 5x 30min = 2 hours 30 min
An additional 30 minutes doesn't seem like much of a problem

Just remember that 1Mbps (megabits per second) is NOT the same as 1MB/s (megabyte per second)! 8Mbps = 1MB/s.

On a 1Mbps ADSL connection, you can expect to get a maximum speed of ~104kB/s, which would mean that you will be able to download about 370MB/h.
So 200MB in 30 minutes is a good speed, and so is 1GB over 3 hours.

Yes, I know that 1mbps is millibits, not megabytes. I am just concerned because it goes at the same speed constantly, yet somehow slower. Maybe it's to do with shaping anything over certain sizes. When I download 8GB files, instead of taking 24 hours (using maths to calculate) it takes ~5 days and at the same speed.

1Mbps - megabits. Not Millibits

Also, if you download an 8GB file, is it p2p (torrents)? Then it's understandable for it to take a longer time as you won't always get full speed on shaped protocols.

A 1Mbps line does (best speed) 390MB an hour.
It takes 2.56 hours to download a gig, so 3hours is also acceptable.
