Hi all,

Thanks to the kind heads-up in the Sale/Discount iTunes/App thread, saw that 1Password is 50% off on both iOS and Mac...

$24,99 is still fairly steep, and whereas I've read plenty of reviews, and have been toying with getting it for a while, I'm still not convinced. Figured I'd pop the question up here to see if there is 'first-hand' feedback...

Worth it?

Quoting myself - is that even allowed(?) - but just had a look again... the synching option between the Mac and all things iOS is a great idea, provided you only use a Mac, and all things iOS... So am I correct in that, if you use 1Password to generate those complicated passwords for all your online sites (since it integrates seamlessly with your browsers), it would work a treat - provided you don't then try and log on to those same sites from a work-pc, or internet cafe, or your granny's house? What then?

+1 for KeePass, using it across different pc/laptops and iOS (MiniKeePass app) with Dropbox.

Thinking of getting it. I do all my browsing from either my MacBook , iPad or iPhone. I only use my windows PC and galaxy for dev. And my PC to play Warcraft(MacBook screen size is too small)

Not worth it if you use windows often.

Thanks for the links... Keepass doesn't appear to work across platforms, and lastpass is free, if you don't mind adverts (which I do)...

Since I spend a significant part of the day on my work PC, think I'll pass on this offer. It's tempting, but from what I can gather - the whole effectiveness of 1Password hinges on you using only those devices that it is installed on?? That could become problematic, the thought of being 'locked-out' of a web-based service in the event that I try and access it from a different PC, is not exactly comforting...

Lastpass is cheap, cross platform and has secondary auth via google authenticator. I don't see any ads. Maybe that's because of Adblock or because I bought it.

Possibly because you bought it. Their website says a $12 annual fee gets you the Premium version, which is ad-free. There might be a once-off fee as well, which negates the annual subscription.

I've been using 1password for a while. It works ok and let's me save other things like cc numbers.
The developer did send me a free gift license for christmas one year! Out of the blue.
However, I am willing to try out other products that are cheaper and cross platform.

I'm using 1Password with Dropbox to sync passwords across x3 macs and iPhones 4 + 5....completely happy with it.
The iOS version is also a paid version so a fair cost for the x2 versions,but to my mind worth it as I feel they are the most focused on the security of their app.....exactly what I'm concerned about too.
The app itself offers very good saving options....notes, customizations of info saved etc.
IF I recall correctly, the developer has stated the upcoming version 4 will be a free upgrade for those who recently purchased vers.3....I used to use Firefox and its password saving options...master-password but not available for iOS at the time hence my switch.

1Password is cross-platform and there is 1PasswordAnywhere for taking your passwords with you.

+1 for Keepass

* its free
* it runs on mutiple platforms i.e. windows, linux, android etc....
* it can run in a portable setup i.e. from a USB drive
* you can save passwords and also file attachements i.e. screen prints, documents etc...
* very flexible ways to customize it according to your needs,
* sync your database with Dropbox so its available on all devices and always up to date,
* strong encryption and can make use of a key file essentially giving you two factor authentication,
* open source i.e. nothing funny in the code i.e. back-doors etc...
* lots of plugins like for example the favorite icon plugin that fetches the favorite icon for each database entry,
* being updated on a regular basis,
* again, ITS FREE

See http://keepass.info/features.html for all the details. In my opinion one of the best and most secure applications available for password management.
