1X500GB or 2x250GB RAID-0?

Indeed. That seems to be the case. Wonder if there is any performance gain at all to be had from getting the 500 over the 320 if you are planning to use it a) for a RAID partition or b) as a single drive with only an OS on...
Well, the 500Gb version has 32MB cache whereas the smaller brother only has 16MB. In the real world you probably won't notice the difference though (I'm not sure what aspects the cache size would affect).

Both drives have rave reviews from owners so you should be happy with either one.

I see. So there is only one drive with 32MB cache then. That is what I thought made all the difference to speeds...Otherwise what makes this 11 series any better than the 8MB cache drive I am running right now?

All the 500Gb+ variants have the 32MB cache. The drive has a slimmer form factor and runs cooler and quieter and its also pretty quick. :D

with your logic, If I RAID 10 drives, there is a 100% of failure? lol

I have been in IT for over 10 years. I have only experienced 2 hard drive crashes in the field. none personally.

The example was obviously an exaggeration, go look up the meaning ;)

And why the hell would you RAID ten drives using RAID0, seeing as everything is being taken literally? I ussume this to be your meaning because one drive failing in any other RAID setup wouldn't cause you to lose anything. I think 10 years in IT may not have been enough :p

The 320GB is the only smaller version you get in the 11 series (sorry for giving the impression there were smaller drives like 250GB :o) and yeah, I'm surprised more guys don't stock it.

BTW who are the official importers of Seagate products in SA? Anyone know?

That would be Storgate Africa, who recently changed their name to Asbis. I believe they are owned by Ingram Micro (Who recently took over the offices of Rectron :D) and are probably the biggest hardware distributor worldwide. Just some useless info FYI ;)
