2.5" external hdd PSU

im looking for a power supply for my 2.5" 100gb sata hdd (in a vizo saturno enclosure), as it is not getting enough power from USB on some computers.

output needs to be 5V/1A (vizo have one, but not available locally) , any ideas where i can purchase one?

are all 5V/1A connectors the same size? ie can i get any 5v/1a connector or will only Vizo's work

I've read horror stories of people using just any old power cable, hard drives smoking, dying, burning so best use the one that's recommended. Don't know where to find them though, best wait for someone else to reply..
 
it does have 'double head' usb cable for both the DC jack and the mini usb, but still on older PC's theres not enough power....

i could just get a powered usb hub, which will provide enough power to it...just its a big big to carry around and size is why i got a 2.5" drive :(

they seem like the same thing to me, if their output is 5V/1A then i can get one of these, plug it into wall and plug drive into there
 
LOL, I gave mine to Wynsam. Now I bought a enclosure and sometimes need one too on underpowered PCs. Try to plug it in at the back, straight to the motherboard, provides better power than front USB case ports...
 
Any power supply should work that has a compatible rating, just make sure it's a good quality supply and not one of the cheapy "Ellies" etc those will cause problems simply because the power does dip and spike, a good quality one should have good regulators in that should give you a stable power source.

True that.

Happened to one of my 320Gig drives.

Friend plugged in his power supply and poof blew the chip at the back of the drive:mad:

Luckily they replaced it:)
