Best is buy a Vantec Nextstar 3 enclosure. That way your lappy drive is hot pluggable via the USB port.

in the usb bracket you can still salvage the data. Done it befor, works like a charm (mind you, pc must be usb2 or else it's extreamly slow!)

also lost a 200gb partition last night. Can recover the data, but have no-where to put it. Will probibly have to get a new hdd 4 that.

It will work, I've recovered data from many lappy drives using my external lappy caddy.
It attaches as per normal just on the USB bus and not IDE.

Quickest would be to go to any PC shop and buy an external USB drive shell into which you can put the "dead" hard drive.
One of the laptops at my work exhibited symptoms of a dead hard drive. We removed the hard drive and put it into an external USB enclosure, and it worked fine. Turned out the onboard IDE controller on the laptop's mobo died.

You can pay a data recovery specialist R4200 to have it recovered.
Try Intratec, if they can't recover it there is no charge.

The nexstars are for 3.5" harddrives, not laptop drives..

Sorry, you are right, I didnt know there where 2.5" nexstar 3's. I was referring to nexstar 3 in my post...
