Hi guys,
Just thought I gotta share this amazing experience with yous. (got 3screendumps to prove it!) :D
I work close to Lanseria airport, now here at the office we've only got EDGE, but over the hill, facing the airport, the MTN map shows 3G and HSDPA.
So I wanted to test the speed on my E620 MTN card with 3G sim inside.
I'm about 6Kms or so from the airport, where I assume the tower is.
Start up www.gamco.co.za bandwidth test.
First reading : 2683.5kbps "which means you can download at 335.4KB/s from our servers"
I thought... wholly sh*! Do some more tests...
2555.9kbps (319.49KB/s), 1680kbps (can't remember), 1018kbps(?), 2557.5kbps (319.69KB/s)
WOW!.... I mean WOW! This is in the open veld in Lanseria, almost no civilization, nobody to use it (except maybe a few farmers & squaters). All this speed that goes to waste
U want fast downloading... come to Lanseria :-)
Ha-ha... of course I know it can't be possible, must've been a snag somewhere.... but it sure was nice while it lasted. :p
(the 1018kbps I can believe, got similar speed with iBurst test)

tried again this morning when I was on the hill facing the airport, where I assume the MTN tower is.... got a few tests in excess of 2Mbps again!
(I even managed to get a speed reading of about 14.5Mbps.... so that must definately be an error!) I wonder if it is the server giving false info, maybe a caching error...
I suppose the only way to get a real speed is to have a e.g. 1MB file on a server, download it and measure the time....
Still, even if I'd get 1.3Mbps at home that would be so great! There I only manage about 700kbps
