Johannesburg - Limpopo police said on Thursday that two men had been arrested for allegedly shooting a policeman at a roadblock near the village of Sekhukhune.
Spokesperson Hangwani Mulaudzi said: "The suspects, who [were] part of a group of seven, were the subject of a major manhunt after they shot an officer during a routine traffic stop [in] Roossenekal Road on Thursday morning."
Police officers stopped the group at a road block.
Two policemen approached their vehicle and one of the men began firing "without any provocation", Mulaudzi said.
A policeman was shot in the chest but was not harmed as he was wearing a bullet proof vest, while a policewoman was overpowered and her pistol taken.
The group escaped in their vehicle.
The officers called for support and a search was launched for the group.
Two men, 30 and 32, were arrested between De hoop Dam and Laersdrif on Thursday afternoon.
The vehicle the group were originally travelling in was also found, overturned, on Roossenekal Road.
The two will appear before the Sekhukhune Magistrate's Court facing charges of attempted murder.
