Hi

I need a bit advice from either an electrical minded person or audio person

Before I cut my cables and try to solder them together again, I just want to find out if the following is possible.

I need to have two input auxiliary feeding to one output.

So in short what I want to do is the following

1. Connect the male 3.5 jack into the speakers
2. at the other end have two female 3.5 jacks that I will plug in two different sources in (1. device playing music, 2. a different source)
3. not playing both devices at the same time but rather than exchanging the devices the one will be off while the other one is feeding sound.

In my limited experience with this kind of thing I can imagine it would be as simple as join the two female wires to the male wire color by color and it should work.

Any advice would be awesome thank you

Like this perhaps, from Takealot ?
My surround sound works like you have described, I think you do have to be careful of reflection though so choose your joining point carefully, I used a 2-1 plug as I have the red and white av cables.

BTW- Those thin wires are not easy to solder, so maybe consider getting the plugs and making your own(or buy one).

Switching before or after amplifier

Audio summing requires a mixer.

You can take 1 signal and split it in 2 but shouldn't take 2 signals and sum it into one safely with a cable like that.
