Hi friends

So I'm a lvl13 night elf and I'm pondering which 2 professions I should choose.

I've taken up skinning which is marvellous and I'll keep at it - naturally everyone says leatherworking goes together with it like torch & battery - especially when you're playing the game by yourself, but in my guild we already have leatherworkers etc.

So here's what I thought about taking up enchanting...

The way I was trying to manage it was to skin leather, which I then give to a lvl60 friend to rework into armor, get the armor back from him and enchant it ... then selling the enchanted armor on auctions. Will it work this way or will it not bring in enough $ to cover my costs?

I just figured that since we play online together alot, it's pointless having 10 leatherworkers. That way whoever needs anything enchanted in the guild doesn't always have to bother the only high level enchanter in our guild for lower level stuff & the more I enchant for others, the more pts I'll score.

I'm thinking of various ways to become efficient rather than just redundant. What do you guys think ? I appreciate the feedback seeing as I'm in initiate level now and want to get it sorted before I go too far.

I'm not sold on the idea of enchanting as many warn me against it, I'm just wondering about a successful way of implementing it. Why else would they have it in the game? As for skinning, I'm loving it and already on the 2nd level after starting it last night.

The other option is mining:

This means I'll have 2 gathering professions and no crafting - which won't cost me anything and I can auction whatever I get. Will this bring in sufficient funds or should I not bother?

I only started playing WoW this weekend and I'm loving it...but I don't want to be silly about the way I'm playing.

All thoughts are welcome!

what class are you?, enchanting does not benefit any specific class in general and is great because you can disenchant all your quest rewards , it is quite dificult to lvl and wont make you too much profit, the same goes with engineering, its a balanced proffesion that benefits all classes the same but its more for fun than making money.

If you wear leather or mail armour then leatherworking will benefit you, if not i wouldnt recomend learning it because towards the end of the game most items you learn to craft are all BOP (bind on pickup) and you will be limited to what you can sell, same principal applies to tailoring(cloth) and blacksmithing(plate) etc. The only benefit is that you can craft yourself epics as soon as you get to lvl70.

I never bother with crafting profesions and always take two gathering proffesions on all my characters because it brings in alot of gold and if you ever need anything thats crafted you can get someone in your guild to to it for you, or pay someone 5g and they enchant anything for u.

Jewel crafting is probably the most profitable proffesion atm but the recipes are difficult to get hold of.

to sum it all up you get crafting proffesions and gathering, you should choose a crafting proffesion based mainly on your armour type and class, then you choose your gatherung proffession based on your crafting proff.

enchanting , engineering and jewel crafting are neutral proffesions that benefit all classes the same.

Leatherworking mostly benefits, mail and leather classes

Blacksmithing you can make nice weapons but mostly benefits plate users.

Tailoring is mostly for pajama classes.

Mining and Herbs are possibly the 2 most profitable gold generating professions out there. Especially once you get to dailys out in SMV it will bring in a LOT of gold!! If you have others in your guild to make things then the gold will/can also help with crafted epics and your epic mount at a later stage. You dont need to spend any gold at all while levelling just do each and every quest in your area and you'll easily have 5,000 gold when you reach level 70 for your mount.

oh cool!

I'm a *cough* Rogue *cough* ... I didn't know. Honest! Everyone seems to hate me though.

Obviously i'm leather bound, but we have top notch leathermans in our guild, so should I really bother with it? I'm looking for something that can bring in coin while i'm on my way to lvl 70 instead of only being able to benefit once i reach 70. Do leather items sell well on the auctions or will it be better if I mine & skin & then sell what I have to auctions and/or trade for enchantments/armor/weaponry ?

It sounds like I'm stressing too much about it, but i'm completely fascinated by it!

You know, do what you want. It's the best advice I can give you :) The game is supposed to be enjoyed by you.

To give you an example, I played Ultima Online several years back on the South African server (yes, this is WAY back) and all I did was run around, gathering supplies and tailoring :) Never fought a single battle. Was fun for me to do that. Eventually when they added player vendors on there, I started mining instead, I saw a lot of folks didn't have the mining skill (or wanted to bother mining/blacksmithing) to make nice armour.

So what I did was place a vendor close to a mining site and blacksmithy thingy and ALL I did was mine and make ingots, and place them on my vendor for sale.

Others followed suit and I then started waging price wars :) was saving for a castle :) but yea dude, I played it the way I liked it because I enjoyed it.

Not because someone told me what to do because I wasn't sure about anything ;)

Marvellous! I enjoy skinning, so i'll keep at it (and apparently good leather is selling at silly prices) but I think I should then take up mining too...

What's the best way to turn material into profit? Apart from taking mining ore to the sminting to turn it into bars.

Pretty good advice!

hehe, last ultima I played was 8. I dont think the internet was out yet back then :p It was that or syndicate+ ... good ol' bullfrog

aaanyway, yeh I'm keen for gathering as opposed to crafting. I just don't want to do something fairly fun... then miss out on epic mounts and other fun stuff due to lack of funds coz I was running fart arsing around in the forest.

In your case you did your own thing and enjoyed it - but you were able to making a killing off it, I'm enjoying skinning so i'll stick to it... i think mining's my next one, I haven't tried it and I don't know if i'll make alot off it - hence me asking how people find it.

thanks dude !

Well if push comes to shove you could always just steal the money :) I've seen guys "infiltrate" guilds then "borrowing" a crap load of stuff and then /gquit :D

*lol*

Nah, the guild I belong to is the same clan I jam BF2 with. Most of them are super duper grandmasters on here too. They'll teabag me until it comes out my nose.

Skinning+Mining is good money. Skinning + Enchanting also works for money if you have a leatherworking mate. If money is your only motivation, you can combine skinning with any other gathering prof. ie, herbalism also works.

Just be aware, though, that many Leatherworked items are Bind on Pickup (eg Primal Netherstrike) and/or require a high level in leatherworking to be able to wear or use (eg the various Drums).

Since you playing a rogue, I'd recommend you consider mining as a means of making some serious cash. You can stealth past many a mob and enter a cave to get what you need. This works great with level 60+ instances too! Skinnning isn't too bad a money maker, but the highly sort after skins (e.g. heavy clefthoof leather) is time consuming to acquire.

I prefer gathering skills and only pick up a crafting skill if I want to try it out. You can get some awesome gear via other means, pvp or instances. Rather take a crafting skill once you have amassed some wealth.

At the end its all up to you. As you play the game, you will mold your own opinions on what you feel is best.

Sweet ... I think I should do just that! ... spend some time farming of sorts and then learn a new profession - luckily its not set in stone once you've chosen.

I suppose if I have enough material gathered, levelling in crafting is much easier when u already have the goods

hey man, I've done JUST that !

I'm a lvl 26 miner/skinner rogue and I'm sitting with 80gold in my pocket and expecting another 40-50g to come in from auctions tomorrow :)

My mining's sitting on 155/225 and skinning's on 185/225 and I'm loving every minute of it! The rogue is just the perfect miner! I've snuck into base camps and sapped the dude near the vein and looted all their ore more times than I care to mention.

Thanks for the help guys!
