2 computer problems

Hi there lads

Im about to throw these things off the biggest frikin building i can find.
2 problems
1 : Trying to install XP , the screen where it copies the setup files after formatting;
--i get the error "Cannot copy dbgeng.dll" and a bunch of others.
--I know its not a ram problem as ive tried using 3 diff types of Ram.
--I've tried 2 different HDD's and its the same problem.
--I've tried 4 different XP CD's (2 of them; before it gets to options gives a BSOD)
--I've tried 2 different CD-Roms
So now its come to: Motherboard and/or Bios settings.
Any ideas on this?

2 : The pc boots no problem, gets passed POST etc but... As soon as i plug in a HDD it wont turn on. It turns on for as long as you keep the button in then just dies, almost as if the HDD's are sucking to much power. I dont understand how this works as i've tried 2 diff 300W PSU. 2 SATA drives, 1 IDE drive, cleared CMOS. The PSU only has to power Mobo, CPU, HDD.. thats it.

Any ideas here aswell?

Motherboard on it's way out? Had a similar issue with a KA-K8NSP a few years back. Did everything as you have done to no avail. Landed up RMA'ing the motherboard and as was fine.

Do you have a failsafe bios setting that you can use?

Had exactly the same problem (to 1) with an Asus P5Q.
Eventually got windows to install by removing one of the ram chips (had 2 in the pc) and everything suddenly worked perfectly.
Took it back to the suplier and they tested and could not figure out the problem.
Eventually (3 hours later) they swapped the board out for me.

As was previously mentioned just because you've tried 3 different types doesn't mean it's a memory problem. In fact if 4 different XP cd's are failing at the same point I'd say it's very likely it's a memory problem.

The only sure fire way to properly eliminate a memory problem is to run memtest. Who's to say the problem isn't with the socket the ram goes into?

lol please dont say that a guy blew 2 yesterday by plugging his cellphone in, a chick broke hers today by plugging a ps2 KB in.... so thats 3 gone and now i've gotta try fix these 2.. ahhhh.
