I have a Company laptop with Norton installed but I personally prefer Nod32.

Is there anyway to install Nod32 by temporarily disabling Norton's? I don't want to uninstall Norton's, what with the laptop being company property and all.

I know that Anti-virus developers warn against using 2 Anti-viruses on one machine, but is this just to protect their own interests or is there any merit to it.

Would be interested to know if anybody's tried it successfully. Not keen to use a company laptop as a virtual Guinea Pig.:)

If you're only going to run one - ever - then it might be ok but having two going at any one time is usually not the best idea as they could recognise each other as a potential threat.

If it is a company laptop and you're connecting it to a company network they might frown upon you disabling the protection they have chosen.

I suggest, having Norton installed, then install Nod32 (which is the best anti-virus) which can run together. Question, why do you still want Norton? If you configure Nod32 properly will stop spyware, adware, greyware, malware. It may be that you using the firewall of Norton which to be frank is crap. Using XP firewall is ok.

Company laptop, so don't wanna uninstall any of the existing programs. It's got Symantec, which I think is crap.

Main problem is I have Nod32 on my home PC, but no Internet connection for updates. The laptops got Internet connection but no Nod 32.

Only other way is to hook up the laptop to the desktop and have a shared connection. Having trouble getting it to work tho. :(

Running Norton can kill the performance down to unusable.

fixed for you :D

i'd uninstall the norton... just be sure to buy the tech guys a beer if something goes wrong and you need their help ;)

I suggest getting IT blokes in who know what they are doing and are not going to suggest Nortons. Eek!

Norton has always been problematic for people. It uses a lot of system resources. It was also quite difficult to remove (may have changed now).
It doesn't do the job very well either. Rather go for Kapersky - version 7 out soon - or even Zone Alarm (which uses the same AV engine).
