So yesterday i got fed up with my dsl line not being able to sync at 2mbits anymore. I remembered that there is a join in my roof where telkom originally installed my line. So i got into my roof and saw that there were 2 lines coming in and one going out to my phone and adsl etc.

I disconnected the line that i thought was not needed and my adsl went off. My phone line still works but my adsl does not. If i plug it back in with the other line, my adsl comes back on again.

If i just connect the second line then i get no dial tone and my adsl still does not work. Only when both these cables are together does my adsl and phone work.

I disconnected the second line and phoned telkom and told them that something is wrong. A techie came out and told me that it should not be like that but he cannot do anything about it.

Any ideas?

My guess is that when they installed my voice line, all was working well. But when i asked them for adsl, they opened the port on the second line and not on the voice line.

Cancel the one line and get the ADSL activated on the voice line.

Cant, had a techie out here and he does not believe that it is running like that. So if i cancel it, they gonna cancel everything.

Can you draw a diagram as this makes no sense unless they split legs across two cables but then you would have 2-pairs (4 wires) and only two of them would work.

Can you see two cables going from your roof to the pole???

Yup, both cables goto the pole. They are not split legs though. If i disconnect the second line, i still have a dial tone. Its just my adsl that falls away

Also, im not even 4km away from the exchange, this is from my modem:
