2 pin Euromate hexagonal extension cord

I started this thread in the Off Topic section but got no positive response. So I'm trying it out here:


I have a multiplug which looks like this : http://www.ellies.co.za/assets/images/highres/surge/standardprotection/FELP51_new.jpg

I have all the 3 pin sockets occupied. The problem I am having is with utilising the 2 pin sockets. Plugs that look like this are fine http://www.ripsdiy.co.za/graphics/euro6.jpg but if it is a AC adapter http://www.hdcabling.co.za/images/AC_DC_Adapter_Europe_South_Africa_2_pin.jpg then I can't get it into the socket since all my 3 pin sockets are used.

I am planning on creating a 2 pin extension cord. Basically it will have a hexagonal 2 pin plug, a 15cm cable and a hexagonal 2 pin socket.

Has anyone come across a store selling hexagonal 2 pin plugs and hexagonal 2 pin sockets ?

I tried searching online, but no luck

I remember that thread. The plug you've got is a Europlug (according to wiki). I've never seen a Europlug socket, but I have seen Schuko sockets (which will accommodate Europlugs) available locally. They're specialised and not cheap. I normally just force two of these on, and run some twinflex to a three pin plug. It's cheaper, and in by experience, a far more reliable connection for more permanent type installations.

I also thought about this a few times. I think there might be a good market for this.

Thats exactly what i'm trying to create. If I knew 499 other people wanting 10 units each, I may consider the 5000 :)

I was actually thinking about creating a star adapter where you have one normal 3-pin plug going to 3 or 4 2-pin sockets. That will help me a lot in my comms cabinet as well as behind my home entertainment center. I would sign up for 10 or maybe even 20 of those 5000.
 
Very difficult to source this locally - what about using a 2-pin travel adapter to "extend" the 2-pin socket height so that you can use the 2-pin power supply - that's what I use to fix this issue... ;)

just buy another splitter and daisy-chain. Unless you're going to load them full with high-current devices (vacuum cleaners, etc.) you won't have any problems.
 
Ja, I also have that problem, I solved it partly by using some of these adapters...

But then it uses up more of the 3 pin sockets.
Better though than having the adapters block up two sockets.

I saw an extension like this at Benmore hardware in Sandton, so try some of the better hardware stores in your area, someone should have. Only thing is that it doesn't have the lip to hold the adaptor in.

Incredibly handy cords. I think they may be made by Apex Leads in SA (www.apex-leads.co.za), but you can certainly get them easily enough from Communica.
 
Last December, I managed to clear out the remaining 6 sockets and plugs from a shop called Electronics123. They are based in Pretoria and I was there on holiday. The entire journey turned out to be a bit more expensive than I originally anticipated. After trying out their Menlyn branch, I had to go to another one and had to pass a toll booth on the N1 :/

Waverly Branch, they used to run it from a house back in the day. Was my favourite place to waste my pocket money.
