This might sound stupid to most of you, but i need to know whether its possible to connect 2 laptops via a wireless connection to 1 wifi router. 1 laptop has Vista and the other XP. The router in question is the Telkom 5102g. Also is it possible for a vista and XP laptop to link via a wireless lan connection?

Any info will be appreciated.

Router is an access point - you can connect multiple machines with different os' yes.
You can also set up a peer wifi lan between xp and vista AFAIK. But there is no need if you are both connected to the same access point, and therefore lan.

Thanks for your info... I think my prob lies deeper... My new laptop(HP Pavillion Dv6363eu) just does not want to connect to my telkom 5102g router... My other notebook with wireless network adapter connects fine... With ne notebook i can see the AP broadcasting, but when i connect i get error and cant go further.... I wonder if the wireless adapter(broadcom) is maybe not compattible with the telkom router... Any other help would be appreciated..

Can you provide the error message? Also, which of the notebooks are running Vista, the one that connects, or the one giving the error message?

The new notebook(HP Pavillion) is running vista. The error isnt specific. It just says "connection unsuccessfull" once I hit the connect button. It pics up the APN perfectly but doesnt want to connect. I am using a preshared key as encryption. I also dont thionk anything is faulty because i can connect to a public wifi apn in our complex with the notebook in question and the router in question is connecting to my other notebook via wifi with no issues...

What F/W you got on the router?

If it is version 2.7.0.9 then you got a problem....

Are there any other settings on the router i should check that might need to be changed for this notebook to connect...?

With no encryption it connects successfully... Cant connect to internet though... When i hold my mouse over icon in taskbar it says "identifying....local only..." my lan connection shows "local and internet"

I had almost the same error with my 5102g and my kjam
2 laptops connected fine but the kjam wouldnt
I upgraded the router's firmware and that seems to have fixed it. Connects fine now

As per my previous post, do i have the correct firmware?

Just thought id let you know that i got the prob sorted... only hassle now is that i can only connect to the router if there is no encryption... My home network is now up and running with the exception that my vista laptop cannot browse or access my xp laptop's files or folder.... I can see the xp laptop in network neighbourhood but cant get access... any help will be appreciated...

try turning off IPv6 on the vista laptop. i had some connection issues until i did the same

Thx... Got it working... eventually I had to assign IP and DNS servers manually... weird because before i had the second notebook it assigned all automatically... Well its working now... still struggling to share my C:\ drive on the vista notebook...
