20" better than 19"

Would it be worth upgrading from my BenQ FP93GX (19", 1280x1024, 2ms) to the HP L2045w (20", 1680 x 1050, 5ms)?

It's widescreen obviously, which sounds nice. I use my PC for normal stuff, also movies and then playing games. Will the weird resolution be a problem with games?

And, most importantly, will the overall experience improvement be worth it? Are HP monitors reliable?

Thanks

From 19" - 20" :D
Most modern games support these newer resolutions, only problem I can see is pumping your games into a Higher res = more strain on your Hardware more likely your GPU :)

Btw, I'll be selling my current monitor for R1200ish, and buying the new one (second hand) for R1600ish. :)

I cannot comment on gaming but my mates all have 19" and I have a a 20" and the difference in size alone really is a big one....

I'd probably save up and get a 22" if I were you but otherwise the 20" will be a step up from the 19" :)

i would love an extra " to show my chick i was not born with an extra pinkie :)

dude your card is going to struggle with 1680 x 1050

Remember for good (smooth) gameplay at those resolutions it is recommended that you get yourself a 8800GT 512MB. Best bang for your buck. I would say the 9600GT 512MB would also do.

Just dont get a card with less the 512 VRAM.

I have the HP LP2065 and it's a very reliable. IIRC the HP is slightly bigger than 20". You will notice a difference so just go for it. The HP monitor is about the only HP product I would buy.

lcd's always look better at native resolution so anything less than that will not look as good, my bro plays on a 22" samsung at 1280 and the games look crap (7950gt) i play the same game same screen at native and it looks awesome.

p.s. for 1650 had better step up to at least a 3850 or as said a 9600

Damn. I was scared this would turn into an "update your graphics" thread. Not gonna happen! I'm not a hectic gamer, and up until I got my 850XT (a few weeks ago) I never knew what AA looked like (no joke). :P

I don't mind dropping the graphics quality a bit, in favour of the overall increased experience with the new monitor. And the total amount of pixels isn't that much higher anyway:
1280x1024= 1 310 720
1680x1050= 1 764 000

You bought it Secondhand Right!?

For once, I agree with killad.... IMO you're wasting your time spending more money for 1 extra inch, even if it is for 400 bucks difference. Anyway when you decide to sell your 20" you will take a knock on that when you decide to sell and buy your 22". Why must one buy monitors in small increments of size? I mean, My first monitor was a 14" :p then I jumped to 17", then a 17" Flat screen (CRT), and now 22". Imagine the wastage if I bought in increments of 1inch!!! Needless to say,my next monitor will probably be like 26" or something ;)

Went from 15" CRT to 17" CRT now just going to get a 17" LCD, have no real need for a 19"+ LCD :)
