Anyone else think they are in the top 20% of the "uncapped"/Net access until we decide, my net is shaped and throttled to death even for daytime speeds, it took about 1min to open mybb, no axxess to gmail.

Dude, you will be throttled in the day time as you've done 200GB. Seriously.

I have been told by IS and Axxess that i have reached my limit for the month, the account is now shaped, with very poor browsing, false advertising "unlimited downloads" ," uncapped" should say Rate Limited 200gb then only local browsing

* You are now Unshaped*

* 24/7 User Policy NEW!

* 10 day Rolling Window - If you're in Top 20% of IS users for the 384kbs, 512kbs and 1024kbs connection speeds, you will be shaped
It's going to be hard to complain
when they tell you that on the
ADSL page.

I agree that it shouldn't be a shot
in the dark, but they have been
clear about the 20% bit.

nah will just do what i should of done last month

Cancel? and go with whom?

Mweb throttle you to hell and back, you start getting abuse letters if you download alot
Openweb are stupidly expensive, R1200 or something dumb
Webafrica no uncapped option
Afrihost, i think id rather chew on arsenic tablets.
Axxess total lack of technical support, total lack of transparency, total lack of anything except getting your money.

I might be missing a few but you get the idea, 200GB is not alot, but also its not small. You didnt mention if these are the lite accounts or the uncapped express+ ones

They have not been clear about the 20%, where was the sms/email/knock on the door warning about you reaching a threshold that could be construded as potential throttling. There has been no transparency with regards to figures. So in essence its utter crap. Because if everyone for the month of august decides to not download alot, it basically brings the top 20% down to 50GB for example. There should be a threshold where by it activates and starts monitoring. Not exactly on 200GB.

I would like to see the figures in
a window so I can see where my
own usage is in comparison.

They used to have one for the 4Meg
service, but it's gone.

IS are a bunch of rejects honestly, they had this product going and have pretty much brought uncapped back to the stone age again. "International Standards" .. Interesting my mother has a 16mbit line uncapped/unthrottled/unshaped.. for what 30 pounds?

No doubt, IS are taking it back to the stone age. So we need an ISP with no refference to IS.
What do you suggest for a good uncapped provider?

There are plenty of alternatives, however you are required to do some research and stay away from any ISP that actively advertises high speed "Uncapped" accounts, like MWEB & IS.

Start here: http://stats.jinx.net.za/ and if in CTN; http://stats.jinx.net.za/cinx/index.php - 1. choose the ISP closest to your physical location; 2. telephone the ISP; 3. if they say NO, request a list of resellers

You should be making a considerable cost saving with much improved throughput.

Cool - I'll give it a ago.

Thanks a bunch.

Openweb GOLD is probably the best value for money package out there at the moment.

Id steer clear of those "Gold" products, numerous complaints about them.

In all honesty ... not a big Openwebber. Had DNS issues on my standby with them at one stage .... (My 3G backup was in for repairs)
Now I have 2 DSL and a 3G account for backup.
