So I want to upgrade from VDSL to fibre.
I don’t want a contract.

Who is “currently” the best cost effective ISP to go for at this line speed?

I’m currently with WA for the VDSL and has no issues and their fibre pricing is good but reading bad stories about fibre with them

With the 200/100 you only have a few options really.

Supersonic - R1749
BitCo - R1745

Those are the only providers offer truely uncapped unshaped unthrottled at the below R1800 mark.

Others like Afrihost,Axxess and Webafrica has a Fair use policy less than 450GB on the 200Mbps line.

Cybersmart home for R1515 has a 900GB fair use policy then torrents take a knock.

Other pretty decent providers offer 200Mbps on Openserve are

C-Fibre - R1999
Accelerit - R1993
CISP -R2409
Nexus-Net - R1249 for basic still decent usage threshold and R2199 for the premium
Level-7 - R2099

Why is fibre so much cheaper on the frogfoot or octotel network compared to openserve?

I also noticed that 200/100 is the fastest one can get?

Have you noticed all the FNO complaints going around ? You hardly ever hear issues on OS because their network is probably the most mature and stable out there. With that said - the prices does make one's eyes water a bit doesn't it. ;-)

Because it's basically just a faster version of their adsl/vdsl product. Expensive IPC from Openserve makes it impossible for ISP's to offer competitive prices on Openserve.

I know pbcool said that traffic to London is cheaper than Openserve IPC costs.

All that said Openserve probably have the best network. No packetloss issues no oversold OLTs and you always get the speed you pay for except if the ISP's IPC is congested or oversold then it becomes a problem.

The actual line rental is not the issue as it's probably around R700 or so for a 200Mbps line.

I'm not a fibre expert hence my question.

So is bitco still recommended?
Is there no one that offers faster speeds above 200? Business only?

Nope 200/100Mbps is the max Openserve offers for FTTH

So it's a hardware limitation?
And the reason for the higher IPC costs?

I have a few mates on the frogfoot network and they are all on 500/1000 packages and have no major issues. Just baffles me why I need to pay considerably more for a 200/100 compared to a 500/500 on frogfoot. I guess telkom doing what they're doing best - milking.

Nope just like frogfoot, Openserve is also running a gpon fibre installation so the limits are imposed by them. The higher IPC costs well they are charging it like that because they can so that is a big problem. We need to see a considerable drop in IPC cost to even imagine pricing at what Frogfoot or Vimatel is offering.

Maybe @websquadza can explain more if I missed anything.
