Hi guys, so recently i've been seeing this advert on olx and gumtree about a 2002 alfa 156 and the guy has a comprehensive list of things he's done to the car (maintenance stuff, not modifications) and its going for R24999. Im really tempted, and yes I should know better but i've heard that sweet sound of that V6 before and i'll never forget it... any thoughts??

You only live once I say, for 25k go for it. I don't have any advice to give on the car though, I only know that you don't just easily pick up Alfa spares from your local spares shop, that's the only unsettling thing I can think about.

I love Alfa (non petrolhead people spell Alpha). The 156 to this day is such a beauty & that Alfa/Alpha V6 is silky smooth...

Go for it *but* keep some bucks for when it breaks down.

Thanks guys, im most definately giving that owner a ring tomorrow... you really do live once

Go for it. I grew up with Alfas, our last one was a 164 V6, the first car I bought was a Alfa and it was fun, now I own Lancias. The story of them being unreliable is only the fault of not doing proper maintenance.

What are you doing next weekend?
Nothing because you will be working on that ALFA.

I had one for years. Amazing car. Check that the waterpump was changed. They came out with a plastic impeller that was prone to crack and turn slower than engine. Also, if you near Pretoria, take it to Glenwood motors and ask them the check the Mass Airflow meter. They changed mine and it was as if I got a new car.

Awesome cars... I really loved mine. Had a 2001 wagon.

I averaged 400km on the 60l tank and I didn't push the car.

Spares aren't cheap and if there's any work to be done on it, don't be surprised if you spend R20k in maintenance in the next year. Do the cambelt service ASAP and always do it before it's due - they don't last as long as the recommended intervals and are known for snapping.

It's a hell of a lot of car for the money that's for sure.

But definitely as a second car.

Also do well to have a good specialist mechanic lined up.

Go for it, join the Alfa club as well. You will get a lot of help and advice there.

15l/100km? (6.6km/l) ? :wtf:

That's correct. And I was rather light footed when driving it... It's one of the very few things I didn't like about the car.

Other things I didn't like:
- No cup holders
- Curved back on the wagon made seeing the back corners of the car difficult to see
- tiny side mirrors
- tiny rear window
- horrible turning circle
