Rich, sometimes they do maintenance during normal hours over weekends, I'll give you that, but that is on selected basestations. I have never seen them bring down the whole network's basestations all at once (including their own webservers).

You really think loads of people will cancel over this ... I doubt it.
 
I totally agree with you there, I'm not sure whether its maintenance work or something other than that but as you said, nobody has got the answers at WBS. In the case of maintenance work a little / short notice would have been nice... :mad:
 
Obviously I am only making sense to myself, so to quote our old mates from Chips: "10-4, over and out" :D
 
Well my tower is still down, thankfully I am at work and do not need to suffer with WBS until later and hopefully they will have sorted it out by then.

Ok, so mixed reports in this thread, are all the base-stations back up again? Has WBS' base-station-fairy come to repossess all the base-stations for non-payment or what?
 
To put some perspective on this:

This is a major failure... nothing to write home about as I've experienced this in my career before. This kind of thing happens and is usually caused by things such as optic fiber breaks, etc...

It is very likely that an optical fiber somewhere has been nicked, or their entire system has crashed!
 
Gosh, I can't believe this... Is Roodepoort going to be the last tower to come back up again!!!!!! :mad: :mad: :mad: :mad:
 
This looks very bad... A couple of mins ago there was only 3 towers down in JHB, I just had a look now and once again 70% of them are down...
 
Just when you thought "Hell, I'm getting slower than dialup speeds on a highly unrealiable connection, at least it can't get worse" they pulled this out of their bag :/

Finally managed to post this. I've only been trying since 1pm to actually reach this site (also had no signal before that). IBurst report Northcliff as being up, I've been getting everything between 0 and 80% signal strength with constant disconnections. I personally would call this degraded service but hey, this is wbs afterall

At this point in time, it's only two basestations in Pretoria that are down at the moment, but I guess it comes and goes.... :(
 
yay my network is back, but so is everyone elses which means everyone is going to hammer it again, oh and thanks for the warning for having the network down on a monday WBS, I really appreciate it
 
If something went pear shaped and they didn't have control over it, it's kinda difficult to warn people about the problem :)

I am impressed though, they even updated the Incident Status Page <looks out window and sees the pigs fly past>.

wbs suck... everything about them sucks... in fact to call someone a wbs is an insult!

i hate them... every last atom belonging to wbs... i hate...

now that i have that out the way i feel a little better
 
My connection is starting to look like it did at the beginning of July.......and thats all over the place speedwise. :mad:

Just hope it's not going to be as bad as last month.

Damn WBS, they could at least send a newsletter each month, or maybe a weekly email update. or get their damn forum working so we can k@k them out!!!! :rolleyes:

.......then again I guess maybe it's better if they just keep quiet since they don't know what running an ISP is all about. :eek:

No Slim, more like down as in 0 or 4 and up as in 80 to _+100 !!!

Lastnight it looked like this month would be better, but now I'm beginning to doubt it.
