Hey guys/girls.

I am looking for a 2005 or 2006 shape Subaru WRX STi in the cape town (western cape) area. Does anyone know of somebody that is selling one? These cars are really scarce, especially the blue ones, which i am particularly looking for.

Thanks,
Saifudin

Word of warning and everyone here knows that I am a Subaru fan .... be very careful when looking for a used Sti of that age, most of them have been abused to hell and back.

Only one, but with 148k on the clock. Does having a FSH with a dealer mean anything wrt how the car was driven?

Do you have any tips on looking for one. Or things to check if do find one?

Yes, if possible buy it from a dealer - if you get one privately, you don't know what you're getting. Then check the service history, and make sure that it was done at a dealer - make sure the cam belt was changed at 100 000, then get someone who knows them to look through the drive train as you could have problems there if the car's been driven hard.

As I said before, they are fantastic cars, but 99% of them have been horribly abused by idiot drivers who think that they are Walter Rohrl!

I have ALWAYS said that if I cannot afford a new one, I'd rather go without.

The dealer can look up the full history of the car and tell you all about whatever else was done to the car apart from servicing. If it's been through a clutch or a turbo at that mileage, don't touch it.

Contacted the dealer here.. he has nothing, said he will let me know if one comes in. I know it sounds silly, but i dont need a subaru. Its more a dream car that i've always wanted. I have a car already but dont want to trade it in just yet :/

That age STi very seldom comes back in to a dealer.

Best to contact the SOCSA guys in Cape Town and they will point you to one that has hopefully not been thrashed.

Thanks! Will do that. The one i found is an '04 model so it has the 2.0L engine instead of the 2005's 2.5L. Guy said car has FSH, no mods but the clutch was replaced twice. What do you think?

2.0 litre is a very sweet engine, but watch the turbo....and 2 clutches...OUCH!

Did not even know the '04 and '05 had different engines :) But it sounds good, the net shows different specs for the 2.0L though. Ranging from 195kw to 203kw. Do you know what it is exactly?

Going to go see the car tomorrow.

I wouldn't buy a second hand forced induction car, but that's just me. If you can find one with low mileage then you're probably going to pay for it.

I wish i could find any others! My take on it is that these car's are really reliable so people dont want/need to sell them :/

I fully agree, and that is basically what I've been saying all morning. If you get a decent one you are damned lucky!

@saifudin ~ they are reliable, but 6 to 8 years of abuse, which most of them have had, is a HUGE gamble.

Thats true.. :/ will see what its like tomorrow. Also, dont think there are low mileage versions of this car. If you have a subaru i'm sure you'd wana drive the thing lol.

@Fazda. Do you work for Subaru Durban?

Click on my signature - been away for a while, but will be back beginning of September.

Fazda - are you saying the STi's can't handle the abuse? I'm not looking to troll - I was under the impression from all the topgear hype that the STi was bullet proof.
